Project Description |
Bauernfeind ResidenceSanta Barbara Contractors Association 2007 Award for Outstanding Craftsmanship by a SubcontractorThe rough framing of an intricate 8,000 square foot Birnam Wood estate complex was this project's scope of work. This project consisted of an expansive main residence, separate guest house, and detached garages.
The large entry halls are covered with a series of precisely aligned groin vault ceilings, each blending into the next, that diverge in three different directions. The separate entry into the master bedroom suite is a large elliptical room, with a vaulted elliptical ceiling.
The exposed beamwork in the kitchen area is a complex latticework assembly that required careful sequencing of the construction. Each main beam supports up to 8 other beams, and these mortised connections had to be both structurally sound and of finish quality in appearance. The result is a striking grid work of tightly fitting exposed beams that appear to have simply grown together effortlessly. |
